What we do

Backyard Landscaping

Most landscaping projects start with an existing backyard that needs reworking rather than a blank site. We assess what's already there — lawn, garden beds, paving, retaining walls, drainage — and work out what can stay, what needs to be removed, and what the new layout needs to achieve. A backyard landscaping project can be as simple as replacing tired turf and garden beds, or as involved as reshaping the whole space with new levels, paving and planting.

Turf & Artificial Turf

We lay both natural turf and artificial turf, depending on the site and how the area will be used. Natural turf suits areas that get reasonable sun and will be maintained ongoing; artificial turf is a practical option for shaded areas, low-maintenance sections, or spots where natural grass has struggled to establish. Either option is laid over a properly prepared base rather than straight onto existing ground.

Garden Beds, Planting & Steel Edging

Garden beds are built up, planted and edged as part of a landscaping project. Steel edging creates a clean, durable line between garden beds, lawn, turf and paved areas — it holds its shape better than plastic edging over time and gives garden beds a defined edge that's easier to maintain.

Paving & Outdoor Areas

We pave paths, patios and garden areas as part of a landscaping project, including edging around paved sections and repairing or re-laying existing paving that's lifted, cracked or settled unevenly. This paving work is for garden and outdoor living areas — driveway paving and driveway construction are covered separately on our Driveways page.

What's included

Excavation & Ground Preparation

Landscaping projects that involve new levels, retaining walls, drainage or a significant change to the existing layout need excavation and ground preparation first. We carry out this excavation as part of the same project — see our Excavation page for more on how this is approached, including on tight-access sites.

Retaining Walls as Part of Landscaping

Retaining walls are often part of a broader landscaping project — for example, creating a level lawn area on a sloping block, or building a raised garden bed. Where a retaining wall is part of the scope, we plan the excavation, drainage and wall construction alongside the rest of the landscaping so the whole project comes together as one job. See our Retaining Walls page for wall materials and construction.

Existing Properties & New Builds

We work on established properties that need an existing garden or backyard reworked, as well as landscaping for newer builds where the outdoor area hasn't been developed yet. The scope differs — established properties often need old features removed first, while new builds usually start from bare or unformed ground — but both are handled as complete landscaping projects.

Choosing and cost

What Affects a Landscaping Estimate?

The cost of a landscaping project depends on the size of the area, the current state of the site, how much excavation or ground preparation is needed, the materials chosen (turf versus artificial turf, paving type, edging), and whether retaining walls or drainage are part of the scope. A small garden-bed refresh is a very different job to a full backyard transformation, so an accurate estimate depends on understanding the specific scope.

Turf can often be quoted over the phone from measurements. Steel edging usually needs a quick site visit to confirm the quote.

Frequently asked questions

What does landscaping include?

Turf and artificial turf, planting, garden beds, steel edging, paving, excavation and ground preparation, and retaining walls where they're part of the project. We combine these into one landscaping project rather than treating each as a separate job.

Can an existing backyard be redone?

Yes. Most landscaping projects start with an existing backyard rather than a bare site — we assess what's there now and work out what stays, what's removed, and what the new layout needs.

Can excavation be part of a landscaping project?

Yes. Landscaping that involves new levels, retaining walls, drainage or a significant layout change needs excavation and ground preparation first, which we carry out as part of the same project.

Can retaining walls and turf form one project?

Yes. A retaining wall is often what makes a level lawn or turf area possible on a sloping block — we plan the wall, excavation and turf together as a single landscaping project.

What information helps with a landscaping estimate?

The area to be landscaped, what's currently there, approximate size, site access, and any elements you already know you want — turf or artificial turf, paving, a retaining wall, or garden beds.
